Contractor Seminar

Los Amigos Educational Resource Center held a Contractor Seminar June 22, 22009
from 9-12.
The Seminar was set up to share information with Contractors regarding ARRA stimulus funds.
Los Amigos will be appropriated approximately $10 million to weatherize homes for the next 3
years and is looking to get contractors back to work and help stimulate the economy.

Presenters were Agent Anthony Montoya and Agent Jesus Rodriguez from the Office of Governmental Investigations, the agents spoke about transparency and honesty when spending DOE funds.
Karen Dunning from MFA spoke regarding the Davis Bacon compliance laws.
Kelly Douglas from Paychex also spoke about Davis Bacon and Certified Payrolls.
Michael Furze from MFA talked to the Contractors about stimulus funds and how they are appropriated from DOE to
MFA and then to Los Amigos.
Andrew Vigil from Construction Industries Division spoke regarding permitting and compliance.

There was a great turnout of more than 30 Contractors and Los Amigos looks forward to working with Contractors to weatherize the more than 1400 homes required.

Executive Director Anthony Roybal, asked each contractor how many people they have had to lay off. The numbers are astonishing over 250 employees from the 30 contractors attending are out of work. The next process for Los Amigos is having the state plan approved this may happen in late July 2009 and once it does an RFP will be issued and we invite ALL contractors to join us in making the quality of life for low to mid income New Mexicans better, through weatherization.
