What Weatherization Does

Weatherization is not a remodeling program nor is it a door and window company. It is a program to save you $$$ on your heating and electric bill. Weatherization finds air leaks in the home and takes different measures to stop the leaks so more heat stays in the home thereby saving you $$$ on your heating bill.

Heating Bill:

Here are some measures you might expect:

Caulk around window frames and loose glass. Replacement of broken glass. Weather-stripping around doors and windows.

Patch crack and holes in exterior walls.

Install insulation if recommended by computer energy audit.

* NOT every measure will be applied to every home. A trained unit assessor will assess what measures will apply to which dwelling.

Recommendations to Clients:

Hot water heater setting to 110* F.

Turn furnace down to 68* even lower at night when everyone is in bed.

Electric Bill:

The program will analyze how many Kilowatt hours your refrigerator is using. If the computer energy audit calls for replacement you will receive a new refrigerator.

Lighting:

The program will replace standard light bulbs with energy saving Compact Fluorescent bulbs where possible.

Heating Appliances:

The program will test all gas burning appliances for safe and efficient operations and will replace furnaces/heaters only when necessary.

Health & Safety:

The program will provide Carbon Monoxide Detector and Smoke Alarms for every household that does not currently have them. Gas operated Water Heaters will be inspected for Carbon Monoxide and efficiency, which could mean repair or replacement.
